VICTIMS SUPPORT FUND DISTRIBUTES FOOD AND MEDICAL CONSUMABLES TO 175,416 NIGERIANS

 

The Chairman of the Victims Support Fund Committee, General TY Danjuma (Rtd) on 30th March 2020, inaugurated a Task Force to drive the VSF One Billion Naira intervention on the Coronavirus epidemic. The 6-member Task Force headed by Mrs. Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji has as members, Amb. John Gana, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, Mr. Sunday Oibe, Mr. Alkasim Abdulkadir and Prof. Sunday Ochoche. The special task force was charged with the mandate to provide palliative measures to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), vulnerable groups as well as institutions and agencies supporting the nations efforts in the fight against Covid-19.

 

The VSF Task Force on the Covid 19 intervention kicked-off the implementation of the first phase of its mandate on 14th April 2020 with the Distribution of food and medical consumables across six (6) States and FCT.

The states in phase 1 are: Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Taraba, Lagos, Ogun, and FCT.  The Task Force targeted a total of 175,416 people in 27,000 households distributed as follows:

In addition to food, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and hygiene kits comprising of N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves, alcohol-based hands sanitisers, soap, and liquid disinfectant were distributed to vulnerable populations as well as government agencies.

The intervention also included continuous sensitisation campaigns using several local languages to educate and raise awareness on preventive measures to curb the further spread of the virus. The VSF Task Force on Covid 19 continues to work towards the implementation of the second phase of the intervention in other parts of the country in order to reach as many vulnerable Nigerians as possible.
